What a beauty, this is an Edinburgh H Student Microscope by Watson the number dates it to 1938 and you will see it is a very usual black and chrome finish rather than the usual brass. Condition of this is outstanding with all movements smooth and holding in place. It comes with a number of features and accessories, from the bottom up: there is an over sized plain and concave mirror the mirror has some signs of degradation, a swing out centering condenser mount with filter holder and iris diaphragm mounted with a Watson Universal condenser. Mechanical stage with x and y axis. There is a quadruple turret containing 8mm and 16mm apo and 50mm and 4mm holos objectives all of which are in very good condition accompanied by their metal cases.

There is also a 1/12 Versalic oil immersion objective in a bakerlite canister. Moving to the eyepieces there are six in total two are Huygs x6 and x10 which are micrometer eyepieces, only one has a graticule which can be swapped between the two and four Holos x7, x10, x14, x20. Come in its original Watson box with working lock and key although the lock and key are not original Watson having been replaced at some time. The box has two holders for the eyepieces and objectives and an accessory box which contains five par focal collars for the eyepieces. There is also a chrome case which holds a number of coloured plastic filters and a couple of stops. For more information on Watsons please see the end of the listing. I now have a number of years experience packing microscopes as you will see from my feedback. My priority is to ensure that an item has sufficient and appropriate packing, so that it arrives with you in the same condition that it leaves me. I would suggest overseas purchasers contact me first to discuss the postal options and associated costs.

Originally established by William Watson in 1837 at City Road London, "Watsons" was a General Dealers. Eventually they moved to High Holborn and the name went through several incantations over the years that they traded (W Watson, Watson & Son, Watson & Sons Ltd, Watson London, Watson Barnet). In the scheme of things it didn't take long before Watson were known worldwide for their scientific instruments, cameras, magic lanterns and medical equipment, they never missed an opportunity to advertise their wares particularly emphasising the build quality of their manufactured items.

Given that many people the world over continue to use their instruments it is a testimony to the fine quality and high standards they achieved.
