Charles Perry Black Japanned And Lacquered Brass Monocular Microscope with swing out height adjustable sub stage with petal iris & filter tray. Produced by Charles Perry, this microscope has the makers mark to the top and is numbered no.

& which dates it to 1932. The microscope is housed in a mahogany case with one ocular and one eye piece.

The microscope has a Vernier focus & substage rack, the light source is via a flat and plano concave mirror. Included in the box are two heavy brass canisters with screw covers, marked for the 2 Objectives and a Bakelite case for the Oil Immersion lens attached to this Microscope. The Objectives are= 2/3" / 1/6" both by Charles Perry & A 1/12 (Oil Immersion) by W. The eyepieces are marked= 1 (Hawkesley & sons)+ Germany. 4 X10 (Micrometer) grid field marked "WW" = W.

All the optics are pretty clean & appear to be free of any major defects, the Grid Micrometer eye piece has some dust on the inner element that could be cleaned to improve. The Microscope is in generally very good order with smooth, firm & Precise movement over all adjustable components. A very nice example of this Inter-war period Compound Scientific Microscope by a well known maker of quality Instruments. The manufacturers guarantee is attached to the door. Charles Perry was the foreman of Powell & Lealand who ceased manufacturing microscopes in 1901, after which he went to work for C.

Baker of High Holborn and later started up himself as Charles Perry of 41, Northolme Road, Highbury, North London. Whether he had his own factory or had instruments made to his specification by Watsons is unclear. The case has a width of 19 cm, a depth of 20 cm and a height of 35 cm. The microscope has a height of 31 cm & 37 mm with top extended for correct use. The set weighs around 7.4 kg.
