VICTORIAN 6-DRAW TELESCOPE SIGNED ELIAS SOLOMANS A very nice and probably quite rare early Victorian signed miniature telescope as pictured. Solomons, of 27, Old Bond Street, London and Dublin. The Solomons in general seemed to be quite prominent purveyors of optical equipment during that era.
This telescope has an achromatic triplet objective lens combination, and the eyepiece is likely to be a 3-lens Schryle type. The optical system produces a good, clear, erect image. The draw-tubes slide easily, and there are no'dings'.
I think that it is made from nickel-plated brass and the plating is still in surprisingly good condition, considering its great age. The barrel cladding is turned baleen, which still seems to be in very nice condition. There is also an integral and functional swivelling eyepiece cover. I found OLD TELESCOPES By Reginald J.
