A wonderful and very scarce set of late Victorian travelling scales and weights. The set comes in a deep burgundy leather case which is in excellent condition. The case opens by two small catches to reveal the balance scales.
The scales are chrome plated brass with gilded brass. The base for weighing letters is enlarged by the opening of two chrome flaps. The scales are secured to a leather platform which slides out to reveal a set of five gilded brass weights ranging from 2oz to 1/4oz.
The maker's mark is not present but the style of the weights is Samson Mordan. The distinctive stamping of the weights e. Oz 2 rather than 2 oz is also a feature of Samson Mordan weights.
The case Measures 13.7 x 2.6 x 2.5cm. A stunning set of scales in excellent condition! If you have any questions, please get in touch.
