It was made by Dollond of London and dates to the late 1800s / early 1900s. The telescope is made of lacquered brass and has a single large tube with an extendable eyepiece which focuses the telescope using the rack and pinion knob on the side.
It also comes with its protective end cap. The telescope comes with a selection of original brass eyepiece lenses for day and night use. Most also have their original sun shade and protective screw end caps. The telescope sits atop a short folding brass tripod. Two screws below the telescope fix it onto the stand.
The stand allows the telescope. To swivel completely around and move up and down. It has a directional steering rod attached to the end of the tube and the bottom of the stand which allows the telescope to be kept steady and moved very fractionally when looking at something. This can be easily removed if desired. Both the telescope and stand are in excellent condition and display beautifully - a real statement piece.
The telescope has clearly been well looked after and there are no major damages. It has suffered some minor dinks and small knocks to the tube and the lacquer has tarnished in places. The lenses are undamaged and produce a clear and crisp image with a very good range.
Please bare in mind the telescope is 100 years old and the lenses will not be like new. There are some small specks of dirt on the lenses but it is perfectly useable. The telescope comes with its original wooden box with fitted sections for the lenses and the stand.
There are some signs of age and use around the box - some old splits, knocks and marks and it is missing one brass catch but overall it displays well. Length of Telescope : 43 (109cm). Height of Stand : 20 (51cm). Diameter of Stand : 14 (36cm). Box : 45" (114cm) x 8 1/2" (22cm) x 5 (13cm).
