Rare Scientific Instrument: Antique Victorian Brass Spectroscope / Spectrometer with Prism /. We present for sale a very old Victorian brass spectroscope / spectrometer. This particular example is believed to be from the mid 1800's. Through comparison to other John Browning designs we believe this is a John Browning spectroscope although the item does not contain any maker's marks or signatures. The spectroscope has two photo-tubes, one with an adjustable aperture and one that moves freely around the circumference of its circular stage. The heavy brass and iron base has three adjustable feet for levelling the instrument. The brass lacquer is all original, with a very heavy and worn patina. This was clearly a well-used piece of lab equipment.

The spectroscope stands at 32 cm tall, with photo-tubes of length approximately 34 cm each.
