This is a vintage beam compass. A German, silver nickel cartographer's or architect's drawing instrument by Riefler, dating to the early 20th century, circa 1930. Displays a desirable aged patina. Silver nickel instrument body in good order. Unfortunately one of the ruling pens is missing.
Beam compass known as the R1 model, with two extending tubular beams for a larger radius. Replete with a set of two ruling pens with adjustable Vernier's and a case containing pencil lead for the ruling pens. Maker's mark to the lid reads C. This three section compass extends to 26 inches and is made of nickel silver. It probably dates from the 1930s and has a black leatherette covered, black velvet lined case. The tubular beam is of a smaller diameter than that of the R2 below but considerably larger than that of the R6. This is an appealing, high quality antique beam compass, by a renowned German instrument maker. Presenting well within its case, this set is a Fine addition to any desk.
