NPL Standard Electrostatic Mirror Galvanometer - Custom made 32 x 10 inches. Construction upper parts mostly Brass. Upper tube is for the suspension filliament and tension adjustment.

The upper chamber is for compensation and observing the mirror. The lower chamber is for the movement. NOT WORKING - originally there would have been a mirror suspended on a taught phosphor bronze ribbon - a small 300mm piece of this is still attached in the upper tube. Deflection is produced by electrostatic force acting between fixed and movindg vanes - the moving vane is gone.

There are windows in the brass screens for observing the mirror and for introducing external light. The windows are made from thin sections of mica.

Diameter 10 inches at base excluding handles. Some of the internal stages are just resting on each other so would need to be removed for transit anyway.
