A rare and Fine Working, Original condition Lacquered Brass and Black Lacquered Microscope has its original lacquered brass cased mirror with no foxing, a substage rotating diaphragm. The solid feathered lacquered brass stage has original copper sprung slide stage clips.
The objective is a split composite in A1condition with clear glass lenses. The Body support has a double hinged back allowing the microscope to be positioned at a choice of 4 different angles to the base for ease of use and also for folding back into its polished mahogany chest case. The Microscope has its original the microscope is of all brass construction except the flat base. Focussing is by sliding the body tube {the action is precise and does not slide out of focus} The eyepiece has a little distortion to the rim of the metal, but this does not affect it in anyway and the eyepiece lenses are again in Fine condition. There is an early solid copper engraved plaque for Philip Harris & Co, Birmingham.
The microscope dates from around 1860. The microscope was most likely made for Philip Harris by Beck. Beck produced for both Philip Harris & Griffin & George and allowed the to badge them.
