MARINE BAROMETER, KEW PATTERN, VINTAGE (1938) {METEOROLOGY} NEGRETTI & ZAMBRA. WITH NATIONAL PHYSICAL LABORATORY TEST CERTIFICATE dated 9th. MoS (MET OFFICE STATION) 1962/38 {NPL 284/ 2a}. This outstanding instrument is the finest quality and of the highest standard obtainable. It is totally original and authentic.

The barometer has been tested and found accurate to 0.2 mbar and has been certified as accurate between 870 and 1050 mbar. Essentially this barometer is made from brass with a steel cistern.

It is equipped with a thermometer calibrated 260 - 320 degrees absolute, it is also fitted with a rack-and-pinion operated vernier for accurately reading the height of the mercury meniscus. Being a marine barometer it is designed to be used in the upright position via gimbals and a heavy duty wall mounting bracket. The main barometer has a large bore but will also have a restriction in it to prevent the mercury from "slopping" and acting as a damper.

The original fitted wooden case is in good condition, with 3 clasps and a lock, but, (as usual), no key. Overall height of case: 40 inches. Condition: excellent, all moving parts work well and there are no cracks or chips to the glass part.
