This is an incredibly rare glass negative from the lick observatory taken Aug 4th 1890. The lick observatory is on mount Hamilton california and was constructed in 1888 only 2 years before this negative was taken.

At this time lick held the biggest telescope in the world. This negative of the moon could show the first discovery of an unknown crater which formed part of the region around copernicus as as it was discovered on slides taken at this time.
