J. B. Dancer brass'true V' binocular microscope (No. 310) c1865 + accessories
A rare opportunity to acquire a fine. Brass binocular/monocular microscope engraved to foot, J.

Comes with a fine array of accessories and historic microscope slides etc. Dancer made high end microscopes and was a member of the Manchester Microscopical Society. The true V type binocular tubes are engraved Registered No.

With fine/course focussing, interchangeable monocular and Dancer V type binocular tubes, two way adjustable stage, plano/concave mirror on tilting stand; in its original fitted mahogany case with various eyepieces and lenses, prepared glass slides, bullseye lens and other items; with manufacturers label inside door (address 43 Cross Street Manchester). Binocular Dancer V type tubes. Glass Dancer prism has been cleaned. There is a small area of damage on the top apex edge. This does not affect the function of the prism. Fine adjustment mechanism lubricated and spring reset working well. There are three pairs of eyepiece lenses for these tubes engraved with capitals; A, B and C. The lowest magnification is A with increasing magnification up to C. As the magnification increases the greater the light required at the stage. The Binocular eyepiece tubes will extend 4.3cms using the knurled adjusting knobs. These are used to set the correct eye width for the user. Each eyepiece end lens also has an extending tube which is useful for setting a comfortable eye distance from the top lenses. Fine adjustment mechanism well lubricated and spring reset functions well. Fitted with an eyepiece engraved with a capital D (highest magnification).

The Binocular eyepieces all fit the monocular tube. The draw tube will comfortably extend by about 11cms - It is 19cms long including eyepiece.

This tube fits into the carry case at the back left corner in an upright position. This tube is intended for use with short focal length objectives i. E 1/8 and smaller as the apex line of the prism on the binocular tubes starts to interfere with the image with these higher magnification lenses. (all with brass screw top cases): Approximate magnifications shown. 3 (3x) Clean glass and sharp focus.

2 (5x) Clean glass and sharp focus 1/2 (20x) with smooth working fine focus. Clean glass and sharp focus 1/4 (40x) with smooth working fine focus.

Clean glass and sharp focus 1/8 (80x) with smooth working fine focus. Clean glass and sharp focus.

This lens has a tiny depth of field and focuses a fraction above the slide surface. For slides with a thicker glass cover over the specimen it is ineffectual as the thickness the glass prevents focal distance being achieved.

Eye floaters might also prove worrying with this lens! Empty screw top brass container missing 3/4 lens. Good clear and clean glass.

(Fits into case upside down from ledge at top back). Superb clean lenses and this is great for focusing light on different layers of the specimen particularly when using 1/2, 1/4 and 1.8 objectives.

Works well Note: small amount of plier marking to brass knurls where lenses has been dismantled for cleaning. Bulls eye lens on brass stand.

Adjustable Nichol prism polariser which fits between the nosepiece and objective lens. Works well and has clean glass. Specimen holding tweezers (has a cork filled end for pinning). Polished silver Lieberkuhns with dust cover (This does not fit any of the objectives). Livebox (Top glass missing but an appropriate diameter watch cover could be fitted).

Glass water tank for use on stage with microscope tilted. (Lords Prayer from Copper Plate Engraving executed in the International Exhibition 1862). Slide maker Green Papers c1860 onwards Four slides.

Husbands and Clarke c1850 Two slides. Also drawer with three stoppered bottles dated.

June 6/1868 From Lindle Pool Tollgate. There was a tollgate at Lindley in Yorkshire.
