A Very RARE, Gemological Hand held Polariscope by SECRETAN a Paris. The House of Lerebours & Secretan produced many fine Optical instruments and Lerebours is also remembered for his involvement in Daguerreotypes. The Instrument can be rotated 360 degrees by the knurled knob below the instrument and the the 2 oxidised brass encased Plates can be moved at Angles on the lacquered brass arc. The The arc has centre zero positions to left and right and is subdivided into 1 degree of arc upto 75 degrees of arc, allowing the circular plates to be accurately moved.
One of the Circular plates can be continually rotated in situ. The Instrument has a Tourmaline eyepiece. The Instrument is in original condition throughout and is missing 1 small lacquered brass screw from the frame work just below the tourmaline eyepiece.
