Exquisite CP GOERZ Berlin Art Deco Barometer Rare Working. AR Baines Harrogate
Apologies for the poor photo's, the combination of a glass barometer face and me not being a great photographer adds up to photo's which don't do this instrument justice. This is much better in real life than in the photo's! This is an exquisite and totally original art deco desk top pedestal barometer made by CP Goerze of Berlin in about 1930 and measures roughly 17cm high with the glass measuring 8 cm in diameter and the base being 8.5 cm. It's a genuine piece from Berlin when it was a centre of design and Art Deco, is so evocative of the period and would have sat either in an office or home where style, form and function were important.
Authenticity is proven by the number 20932 on the bottom. Also underneath is the original setting card giving instructions for tuning the barometer to the height above sea level where it will be kept. The instrument works as it should and is sealed behind two thick pieces of circular bevelled glass and the scales are etched onto the rear glass.
On the pedestal base, in tiny letters and barely visible is stamped AR Baines Harrogate. CP Goetz was a very well known company founded in the 19th century and was highly specialised in optics and scientific instruments. The company was subsumed in a merger by the Zeiss company in the 1930s. A very rare piece made more interesting by its Yorkshire connection. As this is delicate I will deliver personally within a reasonable range.
