A very rare small/miniature example of high quality for this dip circle with the rare signature "Chasselon à Paris N° 46" and "Service hydrographique de la Marine, n°1". Chasselon was the successor of Brunner in Paris and, as him, manufactured very high quality precision physical and surveying instruments.

This dip circle is a small/miniature example measuring 17×12 cm overall. The instrument is put on a tripod leg we can srcrew in heigh and a circle divided in 360°. Two magnifiers allow a fine reading for the declining glazed needle.
