Excellent Georgian Miniature Naval Locking Compass on Rare Double Dog Clip Chain

Rare item, it is still working. I have never seen one so bijoux, at only 3.1cm diameter. I have never seen such a construction for a chain. The chain seems to be silver gilt, with two seemingly identical dog clips, but one is a miniature of the other. It makes me wonder if this item was attached to a uniform and is maybe naval.

Good used condition with expected wear for an item of its age, exactly as in the images. The lock action works by moving the lever to the back left and right. The glass has gone a milky hue, most likely due to age.
