Rare type of Everest pattern transit theodolite with enclosed silver scales rather than the open style, both of which have a diameter of 5, the lower scale with three verniers inscribed A. B & C allowing the user to take three readings which can then be divided down to one median. The two verniers to the vertical scale are read through eye pieces with attached prisms, the scale is brought to focus by sliding the eye piece along the centre arm. The 9 telescope gives a good, clear inverted image with cross hairs to the eye piece. The mahogany case holds a 4.25 trough compass (which fits over the telescope), a hand magnifyer on bar, plumb weight and an additional high power eye piece.
