An Elegant Original Early 20th C Brass Microscope. W Watson & Sons Ltd. Scott & Co Ltd, 180 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow. A good quality antique brass microscope with case and dating from the early 20th C.
This antique microscope is in particularly good order. The microscope is presented in its original mahogany box and its original magnifications card and retailers metal art deco lable. The two chrome plated eye pieces are stamped 2 and 4 whilst the brass objective lenses are stamped 1/6 in & 1/2 in. The microscope works as intended moving the brass body tube smoothly on the focusing mechanism.
The staging is functional but has one alternative and longer slide clip, with the matching original being found in the box. The wooden box is in fair to good condition. It is fitted inside to house the microscope and lenses. The original magnifications card and retailers metal lable are found on the reverse side of the door.The box is finished with a mahogany handle raised on brass mounts. Dimensions: The mahogany box measures 33cm in height and 25cm x 21cm. Weight; Total weight 153g's. Condition: In good used antique condition. The microscope is clean with the surface having maintained a subtle glean.
There are only minor surface losses to the lacquer. The lenses are clean and free from cracks etc. One side of the mirror has losses of the silvering around its periphery. The mahogany case is free from cracks or chips. There are minor marks from age and use. The brass mounts have age related tarnish. The lock and key are fully functional.
