Dating to the early 1800's this mahogany cased pocket compass has a distinctive Regency starburst floating dial, divided into four 90 degree quadrants with a fleur de lys for North, it pivots on a gemstone bearing under a clear crystal. Although unsigned, it's a stylish yet robust compass in very good condition, and in full working order, with a transit lock activated by lid closure. Measuring 80mm square by 30mm deep and weighing 140 grams, a nice clean example of an early 19th century antique compass.
