Circa 1825 lignum vitae turned case compass sundial made by the esteemed maker charles essex a combination compass sundial pantochronometer, entered at stationers hall, printed round the centre of the card , the case itself has a rich dark patina their may of been or not have been a glass dome covering the compass card dial , charles essex worked in london between 1824 and 1828, in full working order and in an excellent condition no cracks to the the base or the top, the compass card is totally original with no rubbing or over painting, measures two inches across the card aperture and two and a half inches in diameter overall, it would grace any collection , these instruments are becoming very scarce.
