Offered for sale is an early and experimental microscope made by Andrew Ross with serial number #308 made around 1848 See Turner, "The Great Age of the Microscope", items 149-150. Focus is rack and pinion with only one knob (as usual) on the right side of the optical tube. A large double side mirror is fixed beneath the stage.
All the structure can rotate from the feet. The microscope comes in its original case (42x18.5x17 cm) with one objective, one eyepiece and some old slides. Case is in good condition with lock, although it must be refixed. This is probably an experimental model made by Ross and probably unique because I have never seen any other with the name engraved under the fine focus and with a rotating feet. Both were not very useful and I thing they were not reproduced anymore because didn't become very popular and characteristic of their microscopes.
