C1870s PATENT MODEL Salesman Sample Industrial CARDING /FEEDING / SORT Machine
ANTIQUE c1870's VINTAGE SALESMAN SAMPLE / PATENT MODEL BRASS - STEEL & WOOD INDUSTRIAL CARDING / SORTING / FEEDING MACHINE WHICH. USED TWO OPERATORS TO OPERATE.

Two operators must have run this machine in real life - as the patent model / salesman sample has a crank on the side which one operator cranked while the other stood in the back of the machine feeding either flat material or or flat metal into the rollers of the device which in turn ran same through into 2 separate walled sleeves for apparent sorting. Passing over two separate rollers The front section would advance forward and turn simultaneously as the material was fed into the rollers and dropped down two separate sleeves by the back side operator and the side operator cranked. This was some early form of semi automation it seems - since two operators were needed.

Wood - this miniature salesman sample patent model is superbly crafted with all gears and aspects of construction working as if in real life. The front feeder box however, needs attention, as it fails to operate fully. All rollers turn freely and the gears are all present and work fine. One gear's sprockets is not touching the other sprockets of one other gear - and it is so complex that we do not want to spend too much time analyzing as to'why' - but obviously an adjustment needs to be made. Nothing seems to be bent that would cause this to happen.

The front'box' will not turn easily to dump the fed materials fed by the operator into the lower sleeved area, and again, we do not have the time to analyze it to make it work or to see why it is not working. Maybe it just needs oiling - but likely it just needs an adjustment. It jams at one point of operation - when it goes forward. When we first got this we do recall it turning more easily, but now it will not - because it has to cycle forward and seems to be hung up and we do not care to bother analyzing it. We are sure it is a minor thing. NO PARTS are MISSING or seem to be bent, We do not want to fiddle with screws'trying' to make such a minor aspect of operation work. Most things like this are missing parts or have broken parts or are incomplete.

This only has a bell and ringer which needs to be re-attached. MODEL OF MAN IS NOT FOR SALE and NOT INCLUDED.

11 " x 10" x 11 in size. Wood platform and delicately formed and all brass and steel parts are well machined. The bell and ringer gong arm needs to be re-attached. In very good shape as shown. AS SHOWN ABOVE AND BELOW.
