C1790 German Pocket Compass and Gnomon Sundial. A beautiful clean condition late 18th century German floating pocket compass with printed and coloured gnomon sundial mounted in a drum shaped fruitwood case with a glass dome. Despite its age, the magnetic disc still turns smoothly and the hand coloured paper still retains its freshness. The turned apple or pear wood case retains its lid and is free from any splits or repairs. Size: 6.5 X 4.5 cm (2 5/8 x 1 ¾ inches) Weight: 37 g.
