May have been used by the French during the War of 1812 trade blockades involving the British, United States and France. With engraved brass and silvered brass compass ring surround. Original partially blued brushed steel compass needle. Compass card and inner ring measures 4 DIAMETER. Outer ring measures 5 1/4 DIAMETER.Mahogany wood case with original sliding lid measures 1 1/4" x 7 1/2" x 7 in size. With adjustable tilting sighting wood encased telescope sight for us as an inclinometer. No lenses are inside sight, just the machined out slits as shown.
There may be mirrors inside possibly. Wear, chips and scratches consistent with age and use. Basically in very good shape.
