Antique W&J George Brass & Bakelite Magnetometer/Compass - Scientific Instrument. This is an Antique W&J George Brass & Bakelite Magnetometer/Compass - Scientific Instrument. This is in excellent condition. The instrument is made from brass and has a Bakelite and wooden plinth stand.
The piece has acquired a patina through time. There is a plaque at the front, on the wooden plinth. It reads: W&J GEORGE LTD, SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENT MAKERS. The magnetometer sits at the centre of the piece.
It has a mirrored backing with a silvered chapter ring. The markings on the piece are black and are clear to read. The mirror backing has acquired a crack, but it is still intact. The magnetometer has a a brass framed, glass casing, which is intact and in good condition.
The brass casing on the magnetometer has split in areas, but still feels strong and sturdy. It can be removed from the framing if required. There are four dials at the back of the piece, which are intact. The plinth base stands on three brass feet, all of which are adjustable. This would make a stunning display piece or collectable item.
