A beautiful set of antique balance beam scales contained within their original box, dating from the mid to late 19th century. The scales are made of. Brass with two large brass dishes suspended by chains. The scales screw into the top of the box for easy use wherever they would have been set up and pack away into the drawer for transporting. The brass crossbeam is marked Class B. The scales also have a maker or owner's name engraved on the lever "Plunket & Sons, London". There are two sets or original old brass weights with the scales that measure in Troy Ounces.

Box : 11" x 5 1/2" x 2 1/4. Pan Diameter : 4 1/2 (15cm). Height when assembled : 15 1/2 (39cm). The whole set is in lovely original condition.

It is a very well made high quality set that displays beautifully. The brass has tarnished over time and there are signs of age and use and some light knocks, scuffs and a chip to the bottom front corner of the box but nothing detrimental. The string has likely been replaced at some point but it looks good and does the job. Please have a good look at the photos for the best description and if you have any questions at all please ask.
