A beautiful set of antique balance beam scales contained within their original box, dating from the late 19th / early 20th century. The scales are made of. Brass with one brass dish suspended by chains and another glass dish. The scales screw into the top of the box for easy use wherever they would have been set up and pack away into the drawer for transporting. The box has an inset maker's plaque. T here are various old weights that come with the scales that measure in grains and ounces that would have allowed chemists to measure to a very fine degree of accuracy.

Box : 10" x 5 1/2" x 2 1/2. Height when assembled : 13 1/2 (34cm). The whole set is in lovely original condition. It is a very well made high quality set that displays beautifully.

There are signs of age and use and some light knocks, scuffs and marks on the box but nothing detrimental. The pin that holds the beam has been lost at some time and replaced with a later one but it does the job.
