I do not believe the barometer is still functioning as it should as a scientific instrument. The condition is generally very good. Please see the photos for condition and to see the shape and carvings. I can see no significant scratches on the glass surfaces- there are some very light stubborn dirty faint orange marks on the glass you may be able to clean off with the right cleaner these are only noticeable up close.
There appears to be a hairline crack in the bezel (the brass circle) on the right hand side (zoom on photo 2). There maybe some old dried furniture polish in the carvings and some caked on dust on areas where dust can settle. I have cleaned this up somewhat but these could be cleaned better still with a little dedication and time. I've found the glass panel is actually slightly loose and can be taken off- this has allowed me to dust beneath.
The panel remains on when the barometer is upright but you may wish to reseal it to be sure. I only found out it was loose when I was polishing it- I had not noticed this in the weeks I had it before- because it is not noticeable to the eye. Lastly there is a slight chip in the wood to the side of the thermometer- see last photo. Most likely manufactured in United Kingdom although this is not confirmed.Weighs approx 5.5 kg.
