A superb antique lacquered brass compound microscope. It has no makers marks but this is by the London maker, William Watson & Sons and is the company's popular'Fram' model, dating to around 1920. It is fitted with coarse and fine focusing, twin objective turret (both objectives by Watson), substage condenser and mirror.
The instrument survives in fine condition. It has a working height of 40cm. Watson and Sons were opticians and camera makers, founded by William Watson in 1837. The company earned a strong reputation for the fine quality of its instruments, eventually comprising not only microscopes but also fine cameras, lenses, magic lanterns and surveyors instruments. Overseas buyers, including those in mainland Europe, please be aware that most international sales now attract import charges.Rest assured, damage and losses are extremely rare, with all my items being carefully packaged in multiple layers of bubblewrap, placed in strong double wall boxes with the void filled with polystyrene loosefill and then sealed with reinforced tape.
