Good example of a high quality microscope in a fitted wooden box, complete with two eyepiece lenses and and three objective lenses. The microscope is made of brass and stands on a black horse shoe base. It is signed on the back of the base with the makers name ; J. The microscope tilts, has an extendable eyepiece tube, rack and pinion coarse focus and an additional fine focus on the rear. It has a square stage and below the stage is an aperture ring, condesner and a mirror to focus the light.
It has a triple revolving nose piece to hold all the lenses. The microscope comes with two good quality brass eyepiece lens and three objective lenses. The first is signed'Swift & Son. 1 in' and comes with a brass lens case.
The second is a Zeiss DD lens with matching case and the third is signed 1/4 in and also comes with matching lens case. The microscope appears to be in good working order and I have set it up and tested it with a few old slides.
I'm sure the lenses would probably benefit from a clean but they produce a clear and bright image all the same and the microscope was easy to focus. The microscope comes in a fitted mahogany case with sections to hold the various lenses. The box is not without some marks, signs of age and some old repaired splits but nothing detrimental. The box measures approximately 12" high X 8" wide X 5 1/2 deep. The microscope fits well in the box but isn't firmly placed between the dividers so maybe one or two are missing or perhaps its not the original box.
The microscope is in good condition for its age. It has been used and will have normal signs of wear so please don't expect it to be brand new. There are some signs of age and small scratches around the base and the brass has tarnished in places. It has been cleaned and the brass lightly polished and it displays very nicely. The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions at all please ask.
