This is item from the Royal Engineers Tunnelling Companies collection, this being a WW1 Tunneller's Electrical Line Testing Kit, a Galvanometer, for the wiring leading to the laid explosive charges. The testing and maintenance of such electrical wiring obviously being a crucial part the mine exploding process. The kit is quality wood and brass affair made by Muirhead and co, and dated 1915. The Galvanometer itself is in excellent condition.
