Here we have a brass French hexagon compass sundial, early 18th century, the horizontal plate engraved with hour scales, the recessed compass with lock, the folding gnomon with a bird support, the reverse engraved with latitudes of continental European cities, 7.3 cm (2 1/2" x 2 3/4") long, being a Butterfield type sundial in outstanding condition, and comes with the red velvet lined case, with closure brass hooks and brass hinge as see in the photos. The continental European cities engraved on the reverse are. The bird gnomon is engraved:4.0.
