Antique Astronomical Refractor Wray c1856. Wray 3.5-inch achromatic refractor c1860. Restored hardwood tripod with adjustable column and adjustable centre column leg brace. Black lacquer Japanned barrel, Wray London in black on rack flange.

Rolled brass dew shield and original OG cap. Supplied with Pancratic variable power terrestrial eyepiece and a case of 12 astronomical eyepieces, RAS fitting. I have ray-traced the objective, and proved the design to be unique to William Wray, and superior to his British rivals.

The star diagonal is not included in the listing, shown for demonstration purposes only. William Wray's optical business flourished from 1851 to 1908 when the firm was absorbed into Aitchison. This style of astronomical refractor was popular in the last half of the C19th thru' first half C20th.
