N integrator gives the area of an enclosed space traced out on a drawing, but it also gives the moment and moment of inertia of that area, around the axis defined by the two index pointers. The instrument comes in its original high quality wooden box with dovetail corners. For size perspective; the box measures 14.25 inches long, 11.5 inches wide, and is 2.75 inches tall.
The box has a brass plate with the number 23483. The box has some scratches that do not show when wiped with orange oil - like in the photos. There are some old references to Ruckert Architect's Supply as dealers in a 1919 Journal of American Institute of Architecture and a 1921 Gould's St. Since Ruckert Architect's Supply was in St. Louis I imagine this instrument to have been marketed to the once vibrant river boat building trade in the area. This also might explain why the piece ended up in the Pittsburgh region and area also once known for the construction of river boats.
