This elegant brass cased explorer's style compass with a separate push fit lid dates to the second half of the 19th century. It's an unsigned example with an English cross bar needle, pivoting on a jewelled bearing above a traditional dial, denoting 32 cardinal and inter cardinal points under a clean undamaged crystal. In good original uncleaned condition, the brass case is free of any dents as is the matching original lid, both for protecting the glass crystal and engaging the built in transit lock. Measuring 60mm across the glass by 17mm deep and weighing 115 grams, it's in good working order and comes with a modern velvet drawstring pouch for added protection. Please study the photos as they are part of the description, and I will be happy to answer any questions if I can.
