He included a lengthy discussion of sectorial scales in his famous 1709 manual on the construction and use of mathematical instruments. Bion's son, Jean-Baptiste, took over the shop in 1731. Extremely rare and antique brass compass made by Nicolas Bion in Paris, France, during the end of XVII century. In working and original condition, with broken glass (very easy to replace, just a round glass). Sundials made by Nicolas Bion are easy to find, however a compass (one of the most simple and iconic scientific instrument) made by Bion is really impossible to see.

According to the signature style, we can conclude this particular compass is one of the first instruments made by Bion (this kind of signature with a few artistic curlers in the end - see ¨Bion¨ and ¨Paris¨ - are engraved only in early pieces made by Bion). Scientific instruments with this signature are very hard to find. Another very important feature: the stylized needle with a small circle is original and has been not replaced for a typical rhombus shape needle. A really exceptional and extraordinaire museum piece for demanding collectors.

Measures of instrument: 112 millimeters X 112 millimeters. Diameter of dial is 92 millimeters. If you have any question, please do not hesitate to contact me.
