A Vintage Botanical Model Of A Wheat / Rye / Barley Flower

This impressive and decorative vintage model of a wheat flower was made in east Germany sometime in the 1960s. 52cm tall x 16cm across. It is larger than life model which is great because it means you can see everything in fantastic detail, these models were used in schools and colleges as educational aids to teach about seed distribution and the structure of flowers and how flowers grow. Still very interesting to botanical students but also very decorative in a home environment. This one is a wheat flour which is very similar to Barley and rye.

It is made of a mixture of materials with card, fabric carved wood and papier mache and and the whole thing is hand-painted and displayed on a turn wooden base. Some of the internal pieces can be removed to get a clearer look at the developing stamen and interior of the plant. I have been lucky recently to make a new contact in the Czech Republic. Who clears schools and colleges both in Czechoslovakia and east Germany and he has found me some fantastic things recently this wonderful example was among them.

It is in very good condition and has one or two very tiny cracks but I would have to call it a condition excellent.
