A Rare Early lacquered Brass Polarimeter by Merker & Ebeling, Wien c. 1890 The Polarimeter is signed on the base: Merker & Ebeling Hernalser Gurtel 13 Ludwig Merker was considered to be one of the leading microscope manufacturers of Vienna (Austria) along with Carl Reichert, In 1886 he enstablished its own business in partnership with Fritz Ebeling The polarimeter has a polarizer to produce plane-polarized light, a place for the sample through which the polarized light passes, and an analyzer to measure the angle of rotation.
