A Fine Antique Induction Coil by Newton & Co. A Late 19th Century Induction Coil. I retired many years ago and now is the time to downsize my Collection of Old Electrical Devices.
Over the next few months I will be offering more. This is in Fine Condition as can be seen from the photographs. It is mounted on a polished Mahogany Base with Brass Terminals and Ebonite Fittings. As far as I can determine Newton & Co. Operated from 3 Fleet Street, London from 1893.
There are two similar designed and dated coils in the Science Museum. The numbers are 634N (1898) and 674N (1899). My machine is numbered 503N so I suspect it was made much earlier, probably between 1893 and 1895.
The coil is 4.1/2" in diameter and approximately 13" long. It is cased in Ebonite as are the end caps. Overall it is 18" long x 10" wide and 10 High Weight is 11Kg unpacked. It has been used purely as a decorative item and has not been tested. Ideally it is for collection only.
