19th century Tunbridge Ware Cleopatra's Needle Barometer. Tunbridge Ware rosewood barometer in the form of Cleopatra's Needle. The obelisk of classical form on a plinth base inlaid with micro mosaic foliate and falling bricks detail. The design, attributed to Henry Hollamby, was made to commemorate Cleopatra's Needle, a gift from Mahammad Ali Pasha to Britain and which was brought from Alexandria in 1877 and now stands on the Victoria Embankment in London. These are now extremely rare and difficult to find in this original condition.
Timbers all complete and polish is super all around. Bone plate behind glass tube, shows measurements in a Fahrenheit scale, all fully working. Height 7 3/4 (19.8cm).
Base 2 3/8 (6.2cm) square. This would be a treasured item in a collection.
