A BRASS 2.75'WATKIN PATENT No 730' DOUBLE CIRCUIT POCKET ANEROID BAROMETER & ALTIMETER. THE INSTRUMENT IS SIGNED FOR THE PRESTIGIOUS MAKER'J. HICKS OF HATTON GDN, LONDON. IN GOOD CONDITION & FULL WORKING ORDER AND CONTAINED IN IT'S ORIGINAL OUTER LEATHER CASE. THIS PARTICULAR MODEL, No 730, IS EXTREMELY RARE.

IT IS THE ONLY ONE THAT I HAVE. AND SHOULD APPEAL TO ANY SERIOUS COLLECTOR. THIS IS ANOTHER ITEM FROM MY GRADUALLY REDUCING PERSONAL COLLECTION.

This barometer is calibrated down to 25 on two concentric circles so that the pointer would have to complete. A full circle twice to record a change of pressure from 25 to 31 inches. This allows the scales to be divided very. The altitude scale is similarly calibrated in steps of 10 feet. This allows the instrument to have exceptional levels of accuracy with much smaller subdivisions of readings than regular aneroid barometers. The diameter of the dial is 2.5 (62mm). The diameter of the brass casing is 2.75 (70mm) and the. The dial is very clean and silvered with fine black lettering and a fine blued steel pointer. It is engraved'Watkin Patent No 730' and'Compensated' (for temperature). It bears the engraved signature of the maker' J. Hicks 8,9&10 Hatton Garden, London. There is a fine recording pointer operated by rotating the outer bezel (which is a bit stiff). The dial reads from 25" to 31" recording the atmospheric pressure with corresponding altitude readings. From 0 to 5700 ft. The instrument has a brass pocket watch shaped casing in good condition with a small hole in the reverse side. To access the calibration screw. The glass cover is thick & bevelled. It appears to be original with no obvious damage.

The original protective outer case has a black coloured leather lid and base with maroon coloured sides. With light wear mainly around the catch. It is lined with the original navy velvet & cream silk linings in very good condition with only light wear.

The brass catch button is present and the catch functions correctly. The hinge is strong and still covered in leather. Overall in very good condition especially for an instrument almost 150 years old.

The barometer is in full working condition and readily passes the'plastic bag pressure test'.
