On offer here is this original vintage WIMSHURST MACHINE Electricity generator. 40cm tall x 30cm across baseDiscs 28cm.
This Winshurst machine was made sometime in the 1950s for use as a scientific experiment in a classroom to show students in Schools and colleges how electricity can be generated. By turning the handle the two large wheels turn in opposite directions which brush against positive and negative brushes then the electricity is picked up by another series of wires and then stored in the Leyden jars. Then the electrical charge will run along the two arms to the metal discharge balls on the end and a small electrical charge will be seen and heard cracking between the two discharge balls A mini lightning bolt. Everything on this piece works perfectly the mechanism is sound and everything is working but unfortunately there is no spark. On doing a little bit of research I think that the collection brushes probably need renewing, there is certainly nothing wrong with it that I can point out. The Little clip on the front is so that you can use it to generate electricity to run a lightbulb or a small motor. There are some very detailed videos on YouTube that explain how these work and there is nothing wrong with this it should work with a little bit of Restoration. This is a fun experiment when working But it is also a very decorative item. The item "ORIGINAL 1950s VINTAGE WIMSHURST MACHINE ELECTRICITY GENERATOR" is in sale since Monday, November 30, 2020.
