Antique Hydraulic Press Demonstration Apparatus By Es Ritchie & Sons Boston 1866

Item is from an estate, and following information is what I have found on the internet, so please see all pictures and do all of your own research and make your own call. I believe this is a Demonstration Apparatus, in the form of a hydraulic press, made by ES Ritche & Sons / Boston sometime after 1866. Apparently LE Knott Apparatus Co had a similar version around 1912 when they took over Ritche & Sons Philosophical Business, but I have been unable to find any photos of that machine.

This one seems to match up with the couple Ritche press photos that I have found online. This one does have some issues. I believe it is repainted. Some rust inside the base as shown.

The tube at the base of the cylinder is broke at the base of the cylinder. Marker name of prior owner underside of base. The base, measured at the bottom, is appox. 8.75 inches long, and 6 inches wide. Bottom to top, is appox 13 inches tall, not taking into account the top nuts, which are appox. The inside brass cylinder, from it base to the top, where the interior cylinder moves up and down is appox.

With the interior shaft pulled all the way up, from where it fits into the base, to the top where it starts to flare out is appox. 3 inches plus the top of the cylinder plus the top cast triangle. With the cylinder pushed down as far as it will go, there is still appox 1 inch of that shaft left exposed using the same measure points as listed before, so the cylinder does not go all the way down into the base of the cylinder. I do believe it is old, and does match up to the above info though, but please make your own call.
